EPPP Part 2 and the 2027 Integrated EPPP: What Changes and When

Updated October 11, 2026 · Sources: ASPPB

EPPP Part 2-Skills, introduced in 2020, is required today only in jurisdictions that have adopted it; ASPPB paused the plan to make it universal from January 1, 2026. In the fourth quarter of 2027 a single integrated EPPP replaces both parts for first-time candidates. Anyone who hasn't yet passed Part 1 or Part 2 by then can retake that part through March 31, 2028. From April 1, 2028 the integrated EPPP is the only exam, with a $650 fee. The beta test costs $100.

Below: each date with its source, what Part 2 looks like now, how Part 1's eight content areas compare with the new six domains, and whether to sit the current exams or wait. Every date comes from ASPPB pages checked on October 11, 2026; your licensing board still sets its own deadlines.

The short answer:

If you're approved and ready, the current Part 1 (and Part 2, if your board requires it) stays open to you until the integrated EPPP goes live in Q4 2027. After that, first-time candidates take only the integrated exam, and the old parts remain open to repeat takers until March 31, 2028.

The EPPP Part 2 and integrated EPPP timeline

This combines ASPPB's EPPP Blueprint Launch Timelines chart, its May 8, 2026 update on accessibility, eligibility and cost, and its Future EPPP Content Areas (2027) page.

  1. 2020EPPP (Part 2-Skills) introduced. Only candidates in jurisdictions that adopted it have to take it (ASPPB Candidate Handbook, September 2026).
  2. October 2022 decision, later pausedUniversal Part 2 mandate paused. ASPPB's board had decided to require both parts for licensure from January 1, 2026. It then voted to pause that decision. Part 2 is still available to jurisdictions that choose to use it (ASPPB, "EPPP: Legacy and Future," March 18, 2026).
  3. February 11, 2026Integrated EPPP blueprint announced. Six content domains, operational from fall 2027 (ASPPB announcement).
  4. Now through Q4 2027Part 1 and Part 2 open to all approved candidates. 2026 and 2027 administrations use the current published blueprints.
  5. Fall 2026 (planned)ASPPB's timeline lists a new sample exam based on the new blueprint and a call for beta-test volunteers. As of October 11, 2026, ASPPB's Sample Exams page did not yet list an integrated sample.
  6. March–April 2027Integrated EPPP beta test, $100. ASPPB's timeline puts beta scores in late June 2027, followed by standard setting to establish cut scores.
  7. Q4 (fall) 2027Integrated EPPP goes live. First-time candidates must take it. Part 1 and Part 2 close to first-time takers.
  8. Through March 31, 2028Retake window. Candidates who haven't passed Part 1 or Part 2 by the go-live date can retake that part until this date.
  9. April 1, 2028Integrated EPPP is the only exam; fee $650. ASPPB says its board will consider CPI-informed increases starting April 1, 2030.
ASPPB hasn't published an exact launch day.ASPPB says "fourth quarter of 2027" and "fall 2027," but not a date. Until it does, plan as though the cutoff could come early in that window, and check with your board for any earlier internal deadlines.

What is EPPP Part 2-Skills?

Part 2-Skills tests applied competencies for independent practice. Part 1 tests knowledge. According to ASPPB's September 2026 EPPP Candidate Handbook, you can take Part 2 only after you pass Part 1, and it needs its own application and approval from your board. On its "Which Exam Should I Take?" page, ASPPB recommends taking it after you've finished all the supervised experience your jurisdiction requires.

Is EPPP Part 2 required in my state or province?

That depends on where you're applying, and we aren't publishing a list. ASPPB doesn't publish one on its exam-types page; it tells candidates to ask their licensing board. Lists on third-party sites contradict each other and may be out of date. Before you plan around Part 2, check your board's website or contact the board.

The integrated EPPP: what ASPPB has published so far

ASPPB calls the new exam "the integrated EPPP." Some candidates call it the "new" or "enhanced" EPPP. It is one exam that assesses knowledge and skills together. Here's what ASPPB has confirmed and what is still open, as of October 11, 2026:

QuestionWhat ASPPB says
DeliveryComputer-based at Pearson testing centers; single-day administration
Item typesSingle-best 3- or 4-option multiple choice, extended multiple choice, scenario-based question sets, audio and video portions
ScoringPass/fail standard based on a total score; cut score to be set after the beta
Eligibility (2028)ASPPB recommends you have finished coursework from a doctoral program acceptable to your board, plus all or most of your required supervised experience, as your board determines
Fee$650 from April 1, 2028; beta $100

Current Part 1 vs the integrated EPPP: how the content areas fold in

Today's Part 1 covers eight content areas. The integrated exam uses six domains. The weights below come from ASPPB.

Current Part 1-Knowledge (8 areas)WeightIntegrated EPPP, fall 2027 (6 domains)Weight
Biological Bases of Behavior10%Scientific Orientation to Practice15%
Cognitive-Affective Bases of Behavior13%Assessment20%
Social and Cultural Bases of Behavior11%Intervention20%
Growth and Lifespan Development12%Consultation and Supervision10%
Assessment and Diagnosis16%Interpersonal Relationships15%
Treatment, Intervention, Prevention and Supervision15%Ethical and Professional Practice20%
Research Methods and Statistics7%(six domains only)
Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues16%

Where each old area likely lands

This mapping is FlashGenius's interpretation, not an ASPPB crosswalk. ASPPB has published the new domain names and weights but no official crosswalk. We matched each area by subject matter so you can see which of your current study notes carry forward.

Current area (Part 1 or Part 2)Most likely integrated domain(s)
Research Methods and Statistics (P1); Scientific orientation (P2)Scientific Orientation to Practice
Biological, Cognitive-Affective, and Social and Cultural Bases (P1)Mainly Scientific Orientation to Practice, applied within Assessment and Intervention
Growth and Lifespan Development (P1)Assessment and Intervention (developmental context), Scientific Orientation
Assessment and Diagnosis (P1); Assessment and intervention (P2)Assessment; Intervention
Treatment, Intervention, Prevention and Supervision (P1)Intervention; Consultation and Supervision
Collaboration, consultation and supervision (P2)Consultation and Supervision
Relational competence (P2); cultural content from Social and Cultural Bases (P1)Interpersonal Relationships
Ethical, Legal, and Professional Issues (P1); Ethical practice and Professionalism (P2)Ethical and Professional Practice

Two takeaways: ethics stays heavy (16% on Part 1 now, 20% in the new Ethical and Professional Practice domain), and relationships, consultation and supervision get standalone domains, skills-style areas that Part 1 never broke out.

Should you test before or after the change?

For most people, timing is set by board approval and supervised hours, not preference. Use this as a starting point and confirm with your board.

Your situationPractical moveCheck with your board
Approved now, ready for Part 1Sit Part 1 well before Q4 2027, early enough to retake before March 31, 2028 if needed. ASPPB recommends about 90 days between attempts.Approval window; retake rules and waiting periods
Passed Part 1; your board requires Part 2Schedule Part 2 before the integrated launch. If you haven't passed it by go-live, retakes are open through March 31, 2028.Whether your board accepts the integrated exam in place of a missing Part 2
Passed Part 1; board doesn't require Part 2Your EPPP is likely done. Focus on the board's remaining requirements.Score transfer and any other licensure steps
Not eligible until late 2027 or laterPlan for the integrated EPPP. First-time takers after go-live must take it.When your board starts approving integrated-exam candidates
Failed Part 1 or Part 2 before go-liveRetake that part by March 31, 2028. ASPPB caps attempts at 4 per part in any 12 months.Board limits on number of attempts
Curious about the beta (spring 2027)$100 beta, March–April 2027, with scores due late June 2027.Ask ASPPB and your board how a beta result is treated before you count on it
Mind the paperwork lead times.Board approval, Clarus registration, and accommodations approval (10–15 business days for ASPPB and Pearson after your board approves) all happen before you can book a seat. Once you pay, you have 12 months to test, or until your board's window closes if that comes first.

How to prepare for each exam

Part 1-Knowledge (now through Q4 2027, retakes to March 31, 2028)

Part 1 is 225 items (175 scored) in 4 hours 15 minutes, across the eight areas above. The scaled passing score is 500, which works out to roughly 70% correct depending on the form. Start with our free EPPP practice exam hub or the 10-question quick start, then work on your weakest areas. In ASPPB's 2025 doctoral report, accredited-program candidates scored lowest in research methods and statistics and growth and lifespan development. Ethics and assessment and diagnosis are the two heaviest areas at 16% each. See the EPPP study plan and EPPP passing score guides for pacing and targets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is EPPP Part 2 required?

Only in jurisdictions that have adopted it. ASPPB paused its plan to require both Part 1 and Part 2 for licensure from January 1, 2026, so Part 2-Skills remains a requirement only where a licensing board chooses to use it. Check with the board where you are applying.

What is the integrated EPPP?

It is a single exam that assesses knowledge and skills together, replacing the separate Part 1 and Part 2. ASPPB says it will be a single-day, computer-based exam with multiple-choice, extended multiple-choice, scenario-based and audio and video items, covering six content domains.

When does the new EPPP start?

ASPPB says the integrated EPPP takes effect in the fourth quarter of 2027, after a beta test in March and April 2027. From that point first-time candidates take the integrated exam, and from April 1, 2028 it is the only EPPP available.

Can I still take EPPP Part 1 after 2027?

Only as a retake. Once the integrated EPPP goes live in Q4 2027, Part 1 and Part 2 close to first-time candidates. If you have not passed Part 1 or Part 2 by then, you may retake that part through March 31, 2028.

How much will the integrated EPPP cost?

ASPPB has announced an exam fee of $650 effective April 1, 2028, and a $100 fee for the beta test. Its board will consider CPI-based increases starting April 1, 2030. Licensing board application fees are separate.

Where can I find EPPP Part 2 sample questions?

ASPPB's EPPP Candidate Handbook includes sample Part 2-Skills questions in Appendix D, and ASPPB sells a 65-item Part 2 sample exam online for $30 or at a Pearson VUE test center for $82.50.

How many questions are on the integrated EPPP and how long is it?

As of October 11, 2026, ASPPB has not published the number of items or the testing time for the integrated EPPP. It has said only that it will be a single-day administration. Check ASPPB's site for the final exam specifications.

The bottom line

Part 2-Skills is a jurisdiction-by-jurisdiction requirement, not a universal one. The integrated EPPP arrives in Q4 2027, the old parts stay open to repeat takers through March 31, 2028, and from April 1, 2028 there is one exam at $650. If you're approved now, the current Part 1 is still a clear, well-documented route, as long as you leave room for a retake before the window closes.
