TCP vs UDP Ports for Network+

For Network+, memorizing the port number is only half the job. You should also know whether the service commonly uses TCP, UDP, or both. TCP is connection-oriented and is commonly used when reliable delivery matters, such as SSH, HTTP, HTTPS, SMB, and RDP. UDP is connectionless and is commonly used for lightweight or time-sensitive services such as DHCP, TFTP, NTP, SNMP, and Syslog.

Some services can use both TCP and UDP. DNS commonly uses UDP for standard queries and TCP for zone transfers or larger responses. LDAP can also use TCP or UDP depending on the use case. In the game above, use Protocol Duel to practice these distinctions until you can answer without guessing.
